Have a look at Samsung Galaxy S8

Electronics giant Samsung has debuted its first smartphone since an embarrassing and costly battery debacle, a phone tech analysts are hailing as a promising device at a crucial moment for the embattled Korean company.

Now, it is back with a bang.

The Galaxy S7 successor also boasts a new feature called Samsung DeX, which allows users to use the Galaxy S8 as a mini computer.

Now, it's over to you: Do you think the Samsung Galaxy S8 duo is capable of crushing Apple's iPhone 8?

Samsung took the first step toward putting its disastrous recall of the fire-prone Galaxy Note 7 behind it on Thursday with the launch of the bigger, and hopefully safer, Galaxy S8.

We do not when the program will start in South Korea but maybe Samsung will reveal more about it when it gets closer to the release date. They sport a new, sleek design and cutting-edge features not seen in its predecessors such as the Bixby voice assistant.

Samsung also revealed Bixby, a smart voice assistant to rival Apple's Siri and Google's Assistant.

While Galaxy S8 comes with a 3,000 mAh battery, the Galaxy S8 Plus is fitted with 3,500 mAh battery pack.

Samsung also made the screen much bigger by removing the home button from the front that in the past acted as a fingerprint scanner.

At a media event in NY on Wednesday, the company launched the two versions of the Galaxy S8, code-named Dream internally, with 6.2-inch and 5.8-inch curved screens. "The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are our testament to regaining your trust by redefining what's possible in safety and marks a new milestone in Samsung's smartphone legacy". Other apps will be able to adopt Bixby, but Samsung has had a mixed track record in getting other companies to support its home-brewed functions, such as an "Air View" feature for showing pop-up previews of content.

The S8 comes in at 5.8 inches (up from 5.1 on the S7) and the Plus measures 6.2 inches (up from 5.5 on the S7 Edge). The two smartphones will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC, but some markets will get the home-grown Exynos 8895 chip as well. The remaining specs, including 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a 12-megapixel camera and an eight-megapixel front facing camera, will be standard across different regions. In the future, Samsung is hoping to integrate Bixby into a wide-range of their appliances so users can control all of their Samsung' products via their smartphone.

"The company has been trying to develop Bixby for the past six years", said Koh Dong-jin, the company's mobile chief, adding that the service will be provided after achieving 90 percent speech recognition and natural language.

The Galaxy S8 devices are also compatible with the new Gear VR with Controller and can connect to the new Gear 360 to create 4K 360-degree videos and 15-megapixel photos.
