Using AI, Gmail will now suggest phrases for your replies, based on its interpretation of your conversation. As for video, Google Home will soon have support for HBO NOW, CBS All Access, and HGTV.

Google is launching a new Android Assistant App Directory, aiming to make Google Assistant-compatible apps easier to find as well as allow users to more seamlessly integrate their favorite apps with the AI. Google claims the feature will be smart enough so that you could auto-share only specific photos - say, of your kids - to your partner or a friend.

Consumers looking for big gadget announcements out of the conference, however, may have been disappointed.

Google provided a peek at the software's upcoming features Wednesday during its annual conference for computer programmers.

Google's autofill feature on Android is enhanced to work across the Android system instead of just being limited to Google Chrome.

Many of Google's products are vying against similar offerings from Apple, Amazon and Microsoft. Google scans for malicious code and automatically disables applications that are created to harm the device.

The question remains though as to whether these features will be enough to eat into a market that is arguably controlled by Alexa.
