Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather will come out of retirement to battle UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor in a boxing match on August 26, according to Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole. He's younger than the 40-year-old boxing legend, has a two-inch reach advantage and will be the heavier fighter when they step into the ring in 73 days. The contracted weight for the fight is 154 pounds.
White said the key to finalizing the fight was luring Mayweather out of retirement. For fight fans, McGregor vs. Mayweather has the potential to be the fight of the century, but at times it has seemed that the fight would never happen.
We see McGregor aiming for the knockout early, before Mayweather gets in his bag and figures out the UFC superstar, picking him apart and cruising to his 50th victory.
The main question surrounding the bout is the rules the fighters would adhere to, with many concerned that Mayweather's vastly superior boxing skills would make a standard boxing match a walkover.
Stephen Espinoza, Head of Showtime Sports, who are handling the pay-per-view for the upcoming event, explained the justification of the high prices.
"If McGregor were to go out and get some boxing matches, I don't see ..."
Mayweather's hotly anticipated 2015 bout against Pacquiao is estimated to have pulled in a record 4.5m American buyers of its $100 pay-per-view package, $79m in ticket sales at the MGM Arena, $20m from commercial deals, $70m from betting.
Carl Frampton has said Conor McGregor will do well to lay a glove on Floyd Mayweather in their Las Vegas superfight, but Donegal middleweight Jason Quigley has predicted the Dubliner will knock his opponent "out cold".
McGregor is the biggest draw of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and the current lightweight champion - but his sport allows kicking and grappling.
"Mayweather makes fighters like Manny Pacquaio and Canelo Alvarez look very ordinary".
McGregor took to Twitter late last night to say, "The fight is on". I think that fight was so big and everybody was going so insane about it, that a lot of mistakes were made that cost them money, which is hilarious to say because that's the biggest money-making fight of all time.
